FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I order a cake?
The easiest way to start the cake-ordering process is to check out our online cakes and order them online.
If you have a special request, you can send a request through our DYO page or send an email (email@example.com) or call 016608934. Please be as specific as possible so we have enough information to get you an accurate price. Also please feel free to send pictures or ideas as well as how many people you will need to serve, to start the process. We will then contact you to discuss your order.
How much do your cakes cost?
See our online order cakes. A custom-designed cake has no set prices. Our cakes are priced according to complexity & size. Factors that affect the price include cake sculpting, fondant or sugarcraft decorations, detailed piping, painting, airbrushing and other time-consuming design elements. Faux cake tiers are available for €10. This is a fantastic way to add height, size, and presentation when you have a smaller guest list. Ask for details!
All shaped/sculpted cakes have a minimum sizing of 8” since we need a minimum amount of actual cake to achieve these designs. We cannot make a 3D Sculpted cake for any fewer than 8”. The price depends on the complexity, design, special stands and supports, etc. We are happy to work within your event budget and encourage you to contact us to discuss options.
How do you accept payment? How do I reserve an event date?
for online cakes, we accept cards and PayPal.
For DYO cakes, we will send you an invoice immediately after ordering.
For wedding cakes and large event cakes, we will send you the invoice immediately. Full payment is due 2 weeks prior to the event. We accept payments via Paypal and online payment. Checks will not be accepted as well as cash.
Is there a cake testing for wedding?
We are not an exclusive wedding cake company, hence our prices. Since we have no actual large store, cake tasting will be brought over to your door if requested for additional costs! Will make sure the cakes that we offer online are of high quality, organic ingredients and fresh-baked from scratch. When you cancel wedding cake, we ask that you contact us no later than 3 days in advance due to our schedule and planning. Please call or email to see if your date is available and schedule an appointment for the wedding. Additional changes are possible up to two weeks prior to the event date. Consultations via e-mail and phone allow us to discuss your cake design, flavour and pricing details. Only after we have accepted a deposit and have a signed wedding cake contract will your date be reserved.
How far in advance should I place my order?
As soon as you know you want a cake, of course! For regular cakes, a minimum of 3 days, for Wedding cakes, a minimum of 1 month ahead. Bookings are made on a first-come, first pay basis. We are a small cake studio and are limited in the number of events we can handle each week. We encourage that wedding cake orders are placed at least 1 month in advance and online orders must be made at least 3 days prior to your event. Each cake we create is completely custom from start to finish, which means we do not have any pre-made cakes for sale and a store and cannot complete cake orders placed the day of. If your request is not within the recommended time frame, do not hesitate to contact us as we often have last-minute openings. (mini cakes)
Do you deliver?
We offer free delivery in Dublin County. Orders of a minimum of €20. Anything below, you can pick up from our cake studio.
While it is usually not a problem for our clients to pick-up smaller cakes from our shop, self-transporting any cake is at your own risk.
Best Cakes does not recommend self-transport of 3D/sculpted cakes, cakes stacked over 2 tiers tall, or travel with any cake for more than 3 hours. If you do choose to pick up your cake, please make sure you have someone to hold the cake or a clean vehicle with a flat surface to place the cake. We are not responsible for any damage that may occur to any client-transported cake once it is your care. Every venue has different policies in receiving “outside food” which includes cakes. Please do your research… ask if they accept outside cakes and if there are any cake cutting fees applied. Please accept our free delivery to your location as it is recommended.
Do your cakes taste as good as they look?
Absolutely!! Every cake is baked from scratch using only fresh, high-quality ingredients. We never have and never will use cake box mix. Every cake is baked to order. We use real Irish products. Mostly local products from farmers nearby such as our eggs. Check out our blog where we regularly add stories about this subject.
Do you offer buttercream finish or fondant for cakes?
The design capabilities are limited for outside events and inside events. Buttercream is made of butter, which softens at room temperature and melts in the heat. This means your cake might melt or turn yellow as it warms. If you would like a buttercream cake, please make sure it stays cool. If the event is outdoors we suggest a Fondant Finish!! Our buttercream is from real Irish butter.
What is Fondant?
Fondant is an edible sugar dough used to cover a cake. Fondant keeps the cake moist, holds shape and does not melt like buttercream. We use fondant from our own recipe; it tastes great and gives the cake a more elegant look. We always add a layer of buttercream under the fondant just in case a guest does not prefer fondant. Fondant is amazing, it allows us to add detail, airbrushing, ruffles, creating textures, sculpting figurines, etc. If you do not care for fondant we can cover the cake in buttercream or modeling chocolate.
Is Best Cakes Licensed?
Yes, we are licensed. And our baker is even HACCP licensed. Because it prioritizes and controls potential hazards in food. By controlling major food risks, such as microbiological, chemical and physical contaminants, we can better assure consumers that our products are as safe. Please read our COVID-19 page for more info on hygiene.
Can I choose more than one flavour?
Each sculpted cake and single-tier must be composed of a single flavor, but a tiered cake may have multiple flavor options. Each tiered cake has a determined number of complementary flavor options- For example, a 3 -tier cake comes with 2 complimentary flavor choices. A 5-tier cake comes with 3 complimentary flavors. Additional flavors are available but at an additional fee.
Do you have a shop for me to visit?
We do not have a store front. However, we’re available for consultations via e-mail or phone.
